While you won’t get to see the full action of the 2008 Olympics from your Phoenix apartment home, you can catch a little bit of the fun. The 2008 archery games wrap up their three-part trials in Phoenix May 1-4. This is the last of three dates in the U.S. Team’s trials prior to the August games in China.
Ben Avery Range
The Olympic trials are set to take place at Phoenix’s own Ben Avery Range, 4044 W. Black Canyon Blvd. Here theUnited States Archery Team hopefuls will line up to compete in the final leg of the pre-game trials. The event, along with two others held prior to it, will determine who gets to go to Beijing this summer and who must stay home.
Even more to do at Ben Avery
- 67 point main covered range and specialty ranges
- 5 field archery ranges
- 99 site campground
- Clay target center with clay, skeet and trap shooting
- Gun safety and hunter safety education courses
Ben Avery Range is owned and operated by the Arizona Game & Fish Commission. The range not only plays host to archery events, but is also a favorite of target shooters, as well. While the world’s best athletes sometimes take to the field, it is open for public shooting dates, too.
Archery Trial Info
If you’re a fan of the Olympic games, checking out the archery trials at Ben Avery Range might be in order. Even if you’re not, this is a great way to get out of your house and explore this incredible park and see some world-class athletes in action. The event is open to the public and promises to be an exciting one. The final eight men and eight women will compete for a chance to represent the United States in China. There are three men’s spots left and two women’s berths, as well. This means the competition will be grueling.
The event begins May 1 with practice and registration. On May 2, the 70-meter ranking rounds will take place. May 3 will deliver single-elimination match play. The final day, May 4, will involve a round-robin competition.
Beyond the archery trials, you can wave your red, white and blue this summer by hosting parties at your apartment home in Phoenix during the 2008 Olympics. Invite over neighbors, co-workers and friends to check out your favorite sports. Throwing in a little barbecue or pizza is a great way to break the ice, too.
Phoenix may be a long way from Beijing, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to catch some Olympic action this summer. Whether you trek out to Ben Avery Range to support the athletes or you simply watch on television, you can count on some major sporting moments this summer.
