If you want to get the kids in on the spring cleaning action, don’t worry, they are capable. Even toddlers can lend a hand, albeit a small one! To get started with their rooms or others in your home, follow these tips to make the task a relative snap:

Map out a house cleaning checklist

Having a game plan on how to tackle house cleaning is never a bad idea. This is especially so with a project as big as spring cleaning. You’ll want to come up with some ideas for which rooms to tackle first, who can do what jobs and how the final home organization should look.

Get cleaning supplies in order

If you want a clean house, you have to have the right materials. For the average spring cleaning job, you’ll want plenty of buckets, sponges, cleaning agents, paper towels, garbage bags and even boxes. Dusters, a vacuum, a broom and even air fresheners are also great ideas.

Toss it out first

One of the best ways to begin to tackle any room in your home is to start by cleaning out the junk. In each room, create two piles – the keeper pile and the “can go” pile. Find homes for the items in the keeper piles and sort through the discards. You might want to pass on some items to charity or even consider a yard sale in your Phoenix apartment complex to get rid of unwanted stuff. Toss out anything broken or unusable.

Go from top to bottom

Once a room has been freed of clutter, let the real cleaning begin! Start with the baseboards and work your way up. Don’t forget to clean behind and under furniture for an extra clean home.

Easy Ways to Get the Kids Cleaning Too!

Now, if you intend to get your kids in on the act, make sure to assign age-appropriate tasks. Little ones can help out with the sorting and tossing out. They might resist getting rid of some of their belongings though, so be prepared. Older kids can handle some of the deep cleaning and even little ones can assist with dusting, sweeping and vacuuming, too. They can also:

  • Dust and clean the baseboards and window sills
  • Put the clothes in the hamper and bring them to the laundry room
  • Use a cleaner filled squirt gun to spray down the windows.
  • Sort toys, books, and games and return to bookshelves, and toy boxes.

Spring cleaning your Phoenix apartment is a great way to prepare for the upcoming seasons of fun and activity. Get the whole family in on the act to make the work flow more smoothly. You’ll be glad you did and you will all be more likely to keep your clean home clean longer.
