If you’re looking for some cool things to do to beat the hot Phoenix summer, hold on to your seat. This Arizona city sizzles with free concerts this time of year, so get out of your apartment and prepare to have a good time enjoying local Phoenix events.
While there are a number of free things to do in Phoenix, the different summer concert series are always worth checking out. Three different series stand out for residents and visitors alike. While not all concert series are free in Phoenix, two of the top ones are and another offers low admission prices and a beautiful setting to boot. The Phoenix concerts to watch out for include:
The 2008 Free Summer Concert Series
The Arrowhead Towne Center at 75th Avenue and Bell Road has a calendar jam-packed with free concerts over the summer. Although the series kicked off in May, shoppers will find music in the air well into August. Music on tap during this free showing includes such styles as country, classic rock, Vegas and oldies. These Phoenix concerts take place in the center’s outdoor amphitheater every Saturday. This event is worth taking in and coming back for more on subsequent Saturdays.
Summer Band Concerts at the Glendale Amphitheater
Just a hop, skip and a jump from Phoenix, the city of Glendale also offers its share of free concerts. The Summer Band series has become almost legendary, running every Thursday through July 24 at the amphitheater, 5850 W. Glendale Ave. Concerts range from marches and ballads to show tunes and beyond. The action gets started at 8 p.m. each night. Guests are requested to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Refreshments are always available for purchase. The series is sponsored by Glendale Civic Pride as a way to get residents and visitors alike outdoors and enjoying some small-town fun.
Jazz in the Garden
Although this concert series is over for the season, it’s worth looking out for next year. The series takes place at the Desert Botanical Garden, 1201 N. Galvin Parkway, in Phoenix. Running from March through June, it features a host of live performances weekly for a low admission price. While it’s not technically “free,” the series is one worth noting. The acts are topnotch and the setting couldn’t be more beautiful.
If you’re looking for free things to do in the summer, Phoenix is the place to be. So get out of your Phoenix apartment and find some concerts that require no admission charge. They abound!
