There are some excellent low carb snacks, natural snacking foods and overall healthy snacks that fit the bill. Here are 10 excellent ideas that will get the job done:

1. Yogurt blend – Take about six cups of plain yogurt and add your favorite granola bars, fresh fruit or nuts to the mix. Keep the add ins healthy and this snack can pay off as a real hunger buster. It serves about four.

2. Pita pizza – Take one slice of pita bread (wheat preferably) and add cheese, tomato sauce and toppings. Broil until cheese melts. Cut in half for one serving.

3. Ants on a log – It’s a kids’ favorite, but nothing says adults can’t love it, too. Take four celery hearts and fill them with peanut butter. Top off with raisins. This is an excellent way to curb hunger and get a little protein and sweetness in the mix.

4. Snack sack – Grab a small baggie and add a ½ cup of your favorite cereal, ¼ cup of raisins and a crumbled granola bar. Carob can also be added to the mix. Seal the bag and shake. Serves one to two.

5. Apple bagel – Slice one plain bagel in half. Add a few apple slices, cheddar cheese, a sprinkling of sugar and cinnamon. Bake in an oven at 350 for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until cheese melts. Serving size: One bagel half.

6. Popcorn – There’s something to be said for this healthy snack. It’s got what it takes. Two cups equals about one serving and if you don’t add anything to it, the calorie count is only about 100.

7. Pita and hummus – Take a half slice of wheat pita bread and dip it into about an ounce of hummus for a tasty, single serving snack that’s healthy and low-cal.

8. Breadless ham “sandwiches” – Take two slices of deli ham and spread about a tablespoon of low-fat cream cheese on them. Roll up with red bell pepper slices. Serves one.

9. Fruity blue cheese – Take a cup of canned pears and mix with a tablespoon of crumbled blue cheese. This makes a tasty, unique snack that can be rather filling.

10. Shrimp – Cooked cool shrimp in a light cocktail sauce can make an excellent, but extravagant snack. Serving size is about 4 ounces for a snack.
